PB: Rebecca Gayheart
NAME: Betty Rohmer
NICKNAMES/ALIASES: alias to the living – Jennifer; Betty to the immortal and undead
AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: Born 1899, Died 1926 at age 27

POWERS: Betty is a Reaper. As a Reaper she has the power to mark individuals who are slated for death, thereby removing their souls after death. She is ageless and heals quickly when injured. As a Reaper Betty also has the ability to forcibly remove a soul from a living body and then replace it, though this isn't an action she has engaged in.

HANDICAPS: Betty is naturally impulsive and so she doesn't always think her actions through before doing them. This includes things such as jumping off of cliffs, which ultimately ended in her death.

APPEARANCE: Standing tall and proud of herself, Betty has an appearance that shows how much pride she takes in how she looks. She's always dressed neatly and her brown tightly curled hair is never anything less than coiffed. Betty likes to look nice and so is frequently seen wearing skirts and blouses or dresses with high heeled shoes.

To the living, Betty appears much the same, only her face having different structure and a slightly heavier physical form.

To the dead, Betty is rather on the thin side, but not to an extent that would make her look ill. She always looks to be in good physical health.

PHYSICAL QUIRKS: Other than being dead and having her physical form look differently to the living who see her, Betty has no physical quirks.

SPECIAL ABILITIES: Betty likes to take photographs and after having done them for approximately 80 years, she's become quite skilled at taking good photographs with a Polaroid camera. She's not tried to switch to modern cameras for a variety of reasons, one the Polaroid reminds her of simpler times and two, it would be complicated to explain to a film developer if any of the dead she photographed were news worthy. It would spark too much curiosity. Plus, Polaroids are instant photographs and she's not a very patient person. She's said so herself, she can't sit still for very long.

RELATIVES: When Betty died she left all of her previous life behind her. This means that while she did have family in the physical she never speaks of them and has, for the most part, forgotten them. She was an only child and any aliases she chooses to go by are generally only children as well. It's easier to remember that way.

OCCUPATION: Grim Reaper, though she doesn't practice much in the City since she doesn't get assignments from Death any longer.

EDUCATION: Given that Betty grew up in the early 20th century, and died at age 27, she completed high school level education but never went beyond that.

TELL US SOMETHING WE DON'T KNOW: Though not a virgin by far, even given the era she grew up in, Betty is not the type to take up with living men. She'll lead them on, milking favors and material possessions off of them, but very rarely does she ever engage with them. Not only because there is something squicky about the undead bedding the living, but because she considers herself above it. Eventually all the men she's led on have moved on because of her lack of providing them with the release they want from her.

HISTORY: Betty was born to a wealthy family in New York. She was an only child and was given pretty much anything she'd ever have wanted. Wanting to keep her safe and sheltered, her parents enrolled her in an all girl school, hoping that it was a safer environment than a public school. She grew up intensely religious and... or is that the childhood of her current alias, Jennifer?

Yes.

Betty actually grew up in the early 20th century, coming of age in the 10's and 20's. She was born in Seattle to a middle class family and was the only child. She prefers to keep that particular aspect of her childhood the same throughout her aliases, just for consistency and ease of remembering. She was always the kind of child that did things without thinking them through entirely, something that got her in a great deal of trouble.

Finding the love of her life in her early 20's, they had a long courtship and engagement one that never made it to marriage because of her sudden death. Betty and her fiance had been planning on going swimming in a roaring river. Complete in bathing suits the two ran to jump off a cliff into the river. At the last moment, her fiance chickened out, leaving Betty to jump alone. The river was shallow and it brought on her unfortunate death, one that Rube was present for.

When Betty climbed out of the water, she saw Rube standing there and appeared to be cross with her fiance for being 'lily-livered.' Upon seeing her body, she seemed to take the news quite well, as well as her suddenly having become a reaper as she was the last one of another reaper's quota. Betty recognized Rube from a previous party where the other reaper had grabbed her inappropriately.

Moving along through her afterlife of being one of the undead, Betty seemed to rather enjoy reaping souls. She was present for many deaths, including that of one Georgia Lass, who was killed by a toilet seat soaring back into the atmosphere. Betty grows fond of George, whom she calls 'Sweetie', eventually leaving her with an engagement ring from Betty's previous life and her camera.

Never being able to sit still for long, Betty had sat still for far too long as just a reaper and wanted to know if there was something better beyond. When it was time for George to reap the soul of an Irish-American gentleman, Betty followed him into his Great Beyond by leaping from the lighted image of the Cliffs of Dover because, “An open door is an open invitation.”

“Fallin' easy, you just fall. Jumpin' requires strength of will.”

This leap took her from her afterlife in Seattle to an afterlife in a mysterious City, where she's been ever since.

PERSONALITY: A bit of 'a pistol' in temperament, as Rube liked to call her, Betty is intensely impulsive and spunky. She isn't the type that can sit still for very long and likes to be busy at all times. If she doesn't have something to do, she makes something to do. She is a very blunt person, not sugar coating her opinions, even if they are unfavorable to have. Even if it is the unpopular choice.

She's a very strong woman and not only knows what she wants, but will take any means to get to her desired end. That includes doing things she's perhaps not supposed to do. Including, but not limited to, piggybacking with a spirit into the Great Beyond. She's prone to using 1920's slang and phrases when she forgets herself and never swears.

An avid collector of the photographs she takes, Betty remembers each and every soul she's ever reaped. Right before she pulls a soul, she takes a picture of them telling them, “Happy Thoughts,” both for her photographs' sake and to try to make the death less traumatic to the one being reaped. If the death appears to be a very violent one, she makes sure to pull the soul before the death occurs to avoid extended suffering and trauma. Even so, each photograph is saved and categorized by personality type.

Betty enjoys being a reaper and has no problem with stealing from the death or squatting in their apartments. After all, they don't need it anymore, they are dead.
